Corpus Christi Print

This image was inspired by Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist. I think sometimes we can sentimentalize the Sacrament to the point it becomes saccharine. Pristine. Sanitized. We forget what it took for Jesus to give us His Body and Blood. What it took for Him to make Himself a total offering. What it is fully sacrificial love involves.

He sweat blood at Gethsemane. He asked the cup be taken from Him, but surrendered His human desire to the will of God. He was betrayed by His closest friends. He was beaten bloody and mocked by crowds. He was stripped naked and nailed to a cross like a criminal. He was pierced. He bled and died. All in the name of Love. All for those who remain imperfect and broken and lost in their sin.

Let this original print serve as a beautiful reminder that the Body and Blood did not come without a cost, and it was not sacrificed for the performative perfect. We cannot consume Him unwilling to make a sacrifice of our lives that costs us as well.
